The Greenleaf Way Gallery Artist - Lauren
Lauren
By: Darbie, Lauren’s Mom
Lauren is an Artist in Training. A 22 year old young woman with autism, she has studied art privately with a local artist for four years. She has been able to overcome many obstacles by expressing her thoughts and feelings through the world of art. Lauren has many talents which include painting, drawing, crocheting and knitting. She bowls and plays tennis with Special Olympics and makes dinner for her dad every Friday. Lauren works at Medina Creative Produce (MCP), a hydroponic greenhouse and Supportive Living Enclave for individuals with developmental and physical disabilities, growing high quality lettuce for the community of Medina. She approaches all of her work with excitement and enthusiasm. We think you can see these in her art work.

By: Mrs. R.
Lauren has been a Greenleaf Way Studio artist since 2007. Since that time she has created more than 80 works of art in oil, acrylic, ink, pastel and mixed media. Lauren has for three years submitted work to the annual Ohio Very Special Arts Accessible Expressions juried art show and has been accepted each year. Like all great artists before her, she appreciates the discipline and practice of drawing and sketching regularly so as to “exercise her artistic muscles!” Lauren is open to exploring any subject or medium, and is always experimenting with a variety of subject matter. Lauren’s artistic strength is her use of color; always bright, always joyous, her colors communicate what she is thinking and feeling. As you view her body of work that she has created over the years, you can see that this artist skillfully uses both line and color to present to the viewer a work of art that can be enjoyed for a long time!
Interview with Lauren
Mrs. R. What do you plan for your future in art?
Lauren: I would like to sell my art and share it with my family and friends. I can also show others how to create simple art projects.
Mrs. R. What advise would you give to other artists?
Lauren: I have learned that making art takes time, so never rush through it.
Mrs. R.: Why do you make art?
Lauren: Because it is fun and I enjoy it. It makes me happy. I am always proud of my art work!
