Passion, Pain and Power - A Frida Shrine Workshop

Hosted by Frida Kahlo herself, this workshop invites you to:
  • Journey into her life and work
  • Create a Frida-like work of art ~ a shrine to Frida!
  • Discover your "Inner Frida!"

This is a Redlefsen "Boutique Workshop" ~ participants are limited to 7- 12 per session. You are encouraged to bring personal items from home to include in your shrine. Shrine boxes and all supplies are included and Frida will prepare one of her favorite antojitos ("little whims" or "little cravings") for you! $45 per person.

Email or call if you are interested in scheduling a workshop for your group or organization, or, if you might be interested in attending a workshop at the Greenleaf Way Gallery in Medina, Ohio.

Frida Kahlo began to paint in 1925 at age 18 while recovering from a streetcar accident that left her with many severe injuries. Throughout her lifetime, Frida never displayed her wounds directly ~ be it the physical wounds caused by accidents or illness, or her psychological inner wounds. Hers was a symbolic language, rich in metaphors drawn from Aztec myths of creation, Far Eastern and Classical Greek mythology, and popular Catholic beliefs. Her work also chronicles her turbulent yet loving relationship with her husband, mural artist Diego Rivera. Frida was a woman of bravery, whit, charm and passion ~ exotic, colorful, and enigmatic! Come discover all of these, and more!

For more information about Frida, see here.

The following photos are from a recent workshop at Devout Home, Rocky River, Ohio, July 2009. Devout Home is at 19032 Old Detroit Road. It is a delightful store and proprietor Lorelei will indeed make you feel at home! Like Frida, Lorelei loves celebrations and you will always find something gala going on there! As the name of the store indicates, Lorelei carries beautiful items for your home, including many Frida items.
